Murassa Hardcover Quran
The volumes made in the Palace Binding House during the reign of Fatih are the period when the classical Turkish bookbinding art reached its peak. Murassa bindings are the best example of this. Murassa literally means adorned with precious stones. Murassa bindings are as much about the art of jewellery as they are about the art of binding. It is a type of skin with high material value. There are ivory carved, gold plated, mosaic, jade relief, ruby, emerald, pearl and diamond ornamented ones. "Murassa Binding" forms an important group among Ottoman bindings. It was mostly applied in the volumes of the Quran. Valuable examples of this species can be found in Topkapı Palace, Süleymaniye Library and Istanbul University Library.
The Qur'an: The upper and lower cover decorations are 24 carat gold plated, sapphire red-green-turquoise stone decorations. Size:12.5x16.5x4 cm.
The Holy Quran Box: In the study of the solid wooden box, the cover and side surfaces; 24-carat gold plated sapphire red-green-turquoise stone decoration. Size: 23.5x20x9 cm.
Gemstones: A total of 136 gemstones of various sizes, 100 Turquoise, 36 Sapphire Red and Green, were used in the study.
The Qur'an with Murassa Binding:
The first volume work was started to be carried out in the Ottoman Empire from the 14th and 15th centuries.
The volumes created in Palace Bindery during Fatih era constitute the peak period of the classical Turkish binding art. Murassa bindings are the best examples of this. Murassa bindings are related with the binding art as well as the art of jewelery, it is an expensive type of binding, it is available as ivory carved, gold-plated, and oriented with mosaics, reliefs jade, rubies, emeralds, pearls and diamonds "Murassa Binding" forms an important group among Ottoman bindings. It is mostly applied on the Qur'an bindings. Valuable examples of this type are available in Topkapi Palace, Suleymaniye Library and Library of Istanbul University. Gold and Silver Plating: Precious Gemstones:100 Turquoise, 36 Sapphire and 136 red and green precious gemstones in different sizes have been used in the work. The work has been prepared as plated with 24 carat gold and 1000 carat pure silver / micron.
