Ancient theatre crowning the head of one of the Muses.
The Nine Goddesses or the Nine Muses, as they are better known in mythology, are also known as the Muses and Muses. The word Muses comes from the root "Men", meaning intelligence, thinking, and creative abilities. According to Hesiodus' Theogony; the nine Muses are the daughters of God Zeus and Goddess Mnemosyne. Mnemosyne means memory. For this reason, the nine Muses are also called "daughters of memory" or "daughters of harmony". When Zeus asked the gods what they needed; he received the answer "someone to praise". Thereupon, according to Hesiodus' narration, after nine nights, Mnemosyne gave birth to nine like-minded girls who sang and danced. The birth took place very close to the snow-covered Olympus peak, the location where the nine Muses' dance area and palace would be located. From there, the Muses went to their fathers singing immortal songs and making beautiful sounds from their feet. In mythological beliefs, it is believed that they lived on Mount Parnasus. As a result of their Nine Goddess origins, they have extraordinary virtues and unlimited talents from birth. For this reason, the Muses were greatly respected and loved in ancient Greek society. They were mentioned together with music in many areas such as religious ceremonies, military training, theaters, harvest ceremonies and schools. Many music festivals and competitions were organized in their honor and philosophy schools named Mouseia were also founded. They were often depicted in the field of art as winged young women, as the ideal elegance and beauty image of the period. Since the Nine Goddesses are the goddesses who fed and raised the God Dionysus, they share the enthusiastic, exciting and emotional high side of art and science. The Nine Goddesses are generally mentioned in mythological narratives while singing together in a chorus, and the chorus is led by Apollo. The God Apollo has taken his place in narratives as a managerial figure who brings reason and order to art and science. The author tried to analyze the complementary opposition of reason and emotion in Nietzsche by using metaphors through Apollo and Dionysus.
