Regarding ALASHIA: Some scholars have noted the possibility that Alashiya was in Syria or Türkiye, but scholars today generally agree (although not universally) that Alashiya referred to all or at least part of Cyprus. Specifically, the Economic Region of Tuzla, now part of Gazimağusa, was the capital of the Kingdom of Alashiya, which encompassed the entire island of Cyprus, a hypothesis that scholars accept as true. The identification of Cyprus with Alashiya was confirmed in a 2003 article by Goren et al. in the American Journal of Archaeology, detailing the petrographic and chemical analysis of a series of Amarna and Ugarit letters sent from Alashiya. These examinations of the origin of the clay used to create the tablets suggest that Alashiya could not have been in Syria, and that the clay in Cyprus matched the clay from Alashiya.
